ORFG Open Scholarship Seed Awards
The request for proposals is now closed.
Thank you for your participation.
Open scholarship can speed up discoveries, close information gaps, and promote reproducibility and innovation.
However, it's not evenly distributed. To address this, the ORFG created the Open Scholarship Seed Award to support open scholarship activities within under-resourced contexts.
Goal of this Award
We seek to fund forward-looking activities to incentivize the engagement or adoption of open scholarship practices at Minority Serving Institutions in the United States and academic institutions in low and middle-income countries and territories.

What We Fund?
This award will support activities under the following categories:
-
Awareness & Community Building: Promote open scholarship through community events like hackathons, seminars, and discussions on reform strategies to embed open scholarship concepts in existing policies and practices.
-
Capacities: Enhance open scholarship practices, such as summer schools, metadata seminars, open data training, and communicating research results to non-technical audiences.
-
Infrastructure: Development of technology, services, protocols, standards, code, or software needed for open scholarship. This encompasses both technical development considerations, as well as activities that make infrastructure more efficient and sustainable, such as the improvement of governance mechanisms.
To foster equitable and inclusive open scholarship practices, the award will not provide funding for any charges related to processing articles (APCs).
All funded proposals must be completed by August 1, 2024.

Awarded funds can be used to fund various activities associated with the proposal.
Who Can Apply?
-
Applications can be submitted by undergraduate or graduate students, postdocs, faculty, or staff members at accredited post-secondary institutions considered Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) in the United States or at academic institutions in low and middle-income countries and territories.
-
We welcome applications from individuals. Nonetheless, we want to ensure the participation of a wide range of voices and experiences.
-
Strong proposals will consider diverse teams elevating the perspectives of underrepresented actors in their academic fields.
-
Still unsure if you qualify? Let us decide! Women and under-represented groups often don't apply because they think they don't meet all requirements when they often do! We aim to support diverse and underserved communities and firmly recommend you submit your application.
